Harvey Weinstein Faces 29 Years In Prison After Being Found Guilty Of Rape

In a case that has been going on for more than two years, Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty.
The former Hollywood movie producer was found guilty of one rape and one criminal sex count that could put him in prison for up to twenty-nine years.
Weinstein is charged with raping aspiring actress Jessica Mann in a hotel room in New York Borough in 2013 and performing a forcible sex act on former production assistant Mimi Haleyi in 2006, although he denies the charges.
The case that inspired the #metoo movement has had a massive impact across the film industry and has empowered women all over the world to share stories of their own sexual harassment.
Rose Mcgowen, Angelina Jolie, and Gwenyth Paltrow are just a fraction of the women making claims against Weinstein.
Even though Harvey has been charged and is going to prison he was acquitted of the most serious charges, including two counts of predatory sexual assault, and first-degree rape, which could have landed him with life in prison.
The 67-year-old has admitted that he has “caused a lot of pain” but has said he is innocent of any crimes.
His spokeswoman said “Mr Weinstein believes that all of these relationships were consensual” and his lawyer, Donna Rotunno, has told CBS that “Any time we talk about men and women in sexual circumstances, I think we have to look at the fact that there’s always an area of grey. So there are these blurred lines, and I think sometimes one sidewalk away from an event feeling different from the other” she continues “I’m not here to say he was not guilty of committing sins…but there’s a difference between sins and crimes, and I don’t think he’s a rapist”
As Weinstein sat in the Manhattan courtroom he showed no emotion and was expressionless as he spoke with Rotunno just minutes after the verdict was read.
Judge James Burke ordered Weinstein to be held in custody and has sentenced a hearing for the 11th of March.
