Actress Dame June Whitfield, who played June Medford in Terry and June along with other noteworthy credits including Absolutely Fabulous and The Last of the Blonde Bombshells, has died at 93.

Dame June’s career started in the 1940s, flourishing with every role she took up.

She was the go-to female comedy performer of her generation and was always in demand from the cream of British comedy.

She led the way for female comedy and we owe her enormous respect. Our thoughts go out to family and friends at this sad time.”

Aged 89, Dame June appeared in Eastenders as Sister Ruth, a nun with a secret about Kat Slater — followed by being made a Dame in 2017 aged 92.
