Smallville actress Allison Mack has reportedly begun her 3-year prison sentence early.

The 39-year-old was convicted earlier this year for assisting the so-called NXIVM cult recruit young women as sex slaves. She was arrested in 2018 on charges of sex trafficking, conspiracy and forced labour conspiracy.

Mack was granted leniency during sentencing due to her cooperation with the prosecution. The judge also acknowledged that she had been manipulated.

The NXIVM advertised itself as a personal development company which offered ‘self help’ programs to clients. The programs acted as a means to brainwash participants and extort money through methods akin to a pyramid scheme.

NXIVM provided a front for its founder, Keith Raniere, to operate a secret sex cult, known as the DOS. All members of the group were female – save for Raniere – with lower and higher tier members known as ‘slaves’ and ‘masters’ respectively.

Indoctrinated members, lured by the promise of female empowerment, were systematically abused by Raniere.

Women were branded with Raniere’s initials, blackmailed to perform sexual acts and expected to recruit ‘slaves’ of their own. Acting as a second-in-command, Mack recruited numerous women into the organisation, forcing them to perform menial tasks and sex acts for Raniere.

According to TMZ, Mack has now reported to the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin, California to begin her 3-year prison sentence.

Her sentence wasn’t scheduled to begin until September 29 – making Mack almost 2 weeks early in checking in to prison.

Raniere is already serving a 120-year sentence for a number of offences, including racketeering, conspiracy and sex trafficking.
