Alex Trebek has made his triumphant return to his Jeopardy! show after a successful run of chemotherapy treatment.

The game show host appeared on his first episode of season 36 after battling with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

On Monday, the 79-year-old opened the show by saying, “I truly hope you folks have enjoyed revisiting some of our special tournaments throughout this past summer … But today, Jeopardy! begins its 36rh season on the air and I’m happy to report, I’m still here.”

Earlier this year, he revealed that he would start treatment for Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, saying, “Just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working.”

He continued, “And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease … Truth told I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years.”

Congratulations, Alex!
