In a world first, Balmain has collaborated with UK-based broadcaster, Channel 4, to launch a five-episode miniseries.

Creative Director for Balmain, Olivier Rousteing, said that “after 10 years at Balmain, I realised I’m more than just a designer.”

“I’m excited by storytelling beyond fashion,” he shared, as the trailer for the dramatic miniseries, titled Fractures, dropped this week.

“What made this project so exciting is that we didn’t think much about fashion, the focus was on the characters and their experiences,” says the designer.

The series follows Maya (played by singer-songwriter Jesse Jo Stark) a struggling singer-songwriter who has fled her privileged life in New York.

Throughout the show, “fateful encounters with fellow residents” at the Le Rêve Motel and “an estranged sibling force her [Maya] to confront old wounds.”

When asked what connection Balmain will have to the show, Rousteing told Vogue that he “let the actors choose what they wanted to wear from a proposition of about 10 looks each.”

“There’s a strong sense of freedom and adventure that ties the collection in with the series.”
