Billie Eilish Apologises For Mouthing Racist Slur In Resurfaced Video

Billie Eilish has apologised after a video resurfaced online which showed the singer mouthing an anti-Asian slur. 

In a video compilation posted to TikTok earlier in June, Eilish mouths an anti-Asian slur which features in Tyler The Creator’s song ‘Fish’.

Eilish responded to the video in a statement on her Instagram. The 19-year-old star said that she did not know the word was derogatory and that she was only 13-14 at the time of the video.

In the statement posted Eilish said. “I am appalled and embarrassed and want to barf that I ever mouthed along to that word. This song was the only time I’d ever heard that word.”

She added: “Regardless of my ignorance and age at the time, nothing excuses the fact is that it was hurtful. For that I am sorry.”

Another video also surfaced online which led to accusations that she was mocking accents. Eilish responded to the accusations arguing that this wasn’t the case saying.

“The other video in that edited clip is me speaking in a silly gibberish made up voice. It’s something I started doing as a kid and have done my whole life when talking to my pets, friends, and family.”
