Bretman Rock Claims He Wore Aaliyah’s Dress – Stylist Says He Is A Liar
At the 2021 VMAs, Bretman Rock claims he wore the Cavalli dress Aaliyah wore to the 2000 VMAs.
This yeah has been dubbed “the year of Aaliyah” with it being the 20th anniversary of her death, her hit album One in A Million turning 25 and her music finally being released on streaming services.
Rock was given the dress from the Roberto Cavalli archive.

Some diehard Aaliyah fans were underwhelmed at what Rock said regarding wearing the dress, claiming he “barely said anything nice about Aaliyah“.
Fans also reached out to Aaliyah’s stylist at the 2001 VMA’s, Derek Lee.
Lee denied Rock’s claims that it wasn’t the actual dress Aaliyah wore.
SO… I don’t have the original. It’s common for celebs to borrow from designers for an event & that’s what happened w/ the dress BG wore. NOW… do I believe that’s the exact same dress she wore. HELL NO! He looks & sounds like he’s bullshitting for clout.

Lee claims the dress is probably not the one Aaliyah actually wore.
He also went on to say that he found Rock’s comments “kinda cringe”.
Honestly, it’s quite obvious to me that he’s making it up. U can pull that dress from several different rental houses. His comment is kinda cringe to me too. With all that being said, I dig what Brennan brings to fashion but this ain’t it 4 me.
