Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield underwent surgery on Wednesday (January 19) to repair the torn labrum in his left shoulder.

The 26-year-old suffered an injury in September following a tackle and played through it for the remainder of the season. He ended the 2021 season with a 60.5% completion rate of passes for 3,010 yards, seventeen touchdowns, and thirteen interceptions.

In a post to Twitter, Mayfield described the recent surgery as a “complete success”.

“Hey everybody, just wanted to check-in. The surgery went great,” said Mayfield. “It was a complete success. I had a great medical team that took care of me and checked that box off to get this fixed and now it’s on the road to recovery.”

“This is one of those steps to get back to my true self. This past year hasn’t been very easy.”

“A lot of stuff has gone down and it hasn’t been easy on me or my family, so I appreciate everybody that’s reached out, that’s wished me well and good luck on the surgery, all the prayers and everything. It definitely did not go unnoticed so thank you.”

“Now it’s on the way to the road to recovery. It’s not going to be an easy one, but it’s going to be one that I’m going to remember, and it’s going to be a special one.”

He added, “This is not the end of my story.”

Mayfield is expected to make a full recovery in 4 to 6 months.
