Hope Solo is set to kick off her new podcast Hope Solo Speaks with an explosive first episode, featuring recently retired Carli Lloyd, who shared damming words about the ‘culture’ of the US Women’s Soccer Team.

Solo has dropped an exclusive clip across socials to show fans what they can expect.

“It was really tough and challenging to play these last several years,” said Lloyd. “To be quite honest, I hated it. It wasn’t fun going in and it was only for love of the game for me.

“I wanted to win and wanted to help the team, but the culture within the team was the worst I had ever seen it.”

“I’m hoping that the future is bright and some things changed.”

Solo, who was fired in 2016, rebuffed Lloyd’s point. The former goalkeeper said: “I didn’t want to go to that culture of the camp, I didn’t want to go to the social aspect of the camp.

“I wanted to work my butt off, I wanted to compete, I wanted to play games but I didn’t want to be around everyone.”

The USWNT has seen big changes since their back-to-back World Cup wins, both on and off the field.

And while more and more players have spoken out against inequality, Lloyd was the only teammate left standing when the rest of hers kneeled in a stance against racism during an Olympic game.

On the pitch, head coach Vlatko Andonovski has begun a mass overhaul that has seen the welcomed passing of the baton as younger – or more in-form – players come to the forefront of the national team.
