‘Dexter’ Will Continue Nearly 10 Years After Season 8 Finale

Dexter will be starting from nearly 10 years after the season 8 finale.
According to Clyde Phillips, the boss of the show, it will be a new season, rather than a continuation directly from the season 8 ending – further into the future.
He explains to The Hollywood Reporter, “We basically do get to start from scratch. We want this to not be Dexter season nine. Ten years, or however many years, have passed by the time this will air, and the show will reflect that time passage. So far as the ending of the show, this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was. It’s a great opportunity to write a second finale.”
Michael C. Hall will be returning to his murderous character, which he last played in September 2013 for the finale of season 8 which was him escape his life for a new one after being caught by his step-sister, Debra.
Phillips continued to explain that many fans were saddened by the finale of Dexter and admitted “this is an opportunity to make that right, but that’s not why we’re doing it.” adding, “We’re not undoing anything. We’re not going to betray that audience and say, ‘Whoops, that was all a dream.’ What happened in the first eight years happened in the first eight years.”
