The final four teams have punched their ticket to the Champions League quarter-finals this week.

Last week Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City and Bayern Munich emerged past the Round of 16.

And this week it was the turn of Atletico Madrid, Benfica, Chelsea, and Villarreal to show just how good they are.

Diego Simeone’s Atletico side showed defensive resilience and crucial game management to knockout Manchester United 2-1 on aggregate.

It was United’s last chance to earn silverware this year; meaning they will now go six seasons without winning a trophy.

Amidst the chaos of the juggernaut clash, Ajax fell to a late Benfica goal to bow out of the competition. Darwin Nùñez’s 77th minute goal was enough to see the Portuguese side through.

On Wednesday, Chelsea continued their good form despite the distractions of owner Roman Abramovich being sanctioned by the UK government.

Goals from Christian Pulisic and César Azpilicueta helped them win 2-1 on the night, and 4-1 on aggregate. And the upset of the round goes to Villarreal, who left it late to dispatch Juventus.

The two sides were level going into the second leg, but a trio of goals in the dying minutes confirmed the Spanish sides place in the last eight.

Gerard Moreno, Pau Torres, and Arnaut Danjuma all scored to earn a 3-0 win on the night, with two coming from the penalty spot.

The draw for the quarter-finals will take place on Friday 18.
