Former United States women’s goalkeeper Hope Solo was arrested in North Carolina on Friday.
The 40-year-old was arrested on charges of misdemeanour child abuse, resisting arrest, and impaired driving, according to police.
In a statement by the Winston-Salem Police Department, Solo was found inside the vehicle with her two children.
The World Cup winner took to social media to share a statement in the wake of her arrest.
“For those who have reached out, showing love and support, thank you,” she wrote. “Our family is strong and surrounded with love. Our kids are strong, intelligent, happy, and vibrant, and we are present every day giving them the best life possible.”
