George Clooney has shared about the time he almost starred in The Notebook with Paul Newman.

The 59-year-old Ocean’s Eleven star opened up about the time he was going to be cast as Newman’s younger self in The Notebook.

During an interview with Deadline, Clooney admitted that he was close to working with Paul, saying, “We were going to do The Notebook together … Basically, I was going to play him as a young man, and it was funny. We met and said, ‘This is it. It’s going to be great.’”

George then claims he came to the realisation that he looked nothing like Newman when he was younger, saying, “He’s one of the handsomest guys you’ve ever seen. We met up [again] and I said, ‘I can’t play you. I don’t look anything like you. This is insane,’ … We just wanted to do it because we wanted to work together, [but] it ended up being not the right thing for us to do.”

Sadly, Paul lost his battle with cancer in 2008.
