James Corden Announces Gavin & Stacey Return

James Corden has announced Gavin & Stacey will return to UK screen for a Christmas special at the end of 2019.
The comedian-actor and US television host announced the exciting news on Twitter, saying, “Ruth Jones and I have been keeping this secret for a while… We’re excited to share it with you. See you on Christmas Day.”
The BBC has released a statement in which James and Ruth are quoted saying, “Over the last ten years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin & Stacey – where they might be today and what their lives might look like.
And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special. We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy. We’re so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas. Thank you BBC for helping make this happen.”
The original series ran for three seasons between 2007 to 2010, and will return for a one-off Christmas special.
Director of BBC Content, Charlotte Moore, has said, “Everyone at the BBC is hugely excited to be welcoming back Gavin and Stacey to BBC One this Christmas. We can’t wait to see what’s happened to everyone over the last nine years, and what’s next for one of the nation’s favourite comedy families.”
According to sources connected to the production, the show is set out to feature a plot that may open the doors to a spin-off series. The last episode, that aired on New Year’s Day in 2010, attracted over 10 million viewers.
Rob Brydon, Melanie Waters, Larry Lamb and Alison Steadman are returning for the one-off special episode, naturally, James and Ruth are part of the cast, alongside Matthew Horne and Joanna Page.
