John Cleese Shows J.K. Rowling Support & Is Called Out For Transphobia

John Cleese has shown support for J.K. Rowling after she faced backlash over transphobic comments.
The 81-year-old Monty Python and the Holy Grail actor took to social media over the weekend to express his views on the current Rowling situation before sharing an opinion on the trans community.
Writing on Twitter, he said, “Deep down, I want to be a Cambodian policewoman. Is that allowed, or am I being unrealistic?” before saying, “I’m afraid I’m not interested in trans folks … I just hope they’re happy and that people treat them kindly … Right now I’m more focussed on threats to democracy in America, the rampant corruption in the UK, the appalling British Press, the revelations about police brutality…
COVID-19, the incompetence of the British government, China’s complete disregard for the necessity to abandon fossil fuels, the developments in France between Macron and Islamicists, diabetes, and the recent deaths of several of my close friends. Does that sound hard-hearted?”
This was in response to a commenter saying, “I’m not psychic, so why don’t you be upfront and tell us your thoughts on JKR‘s position on trans folks.”
Yes, and torturing small animals and setting fire to babies
Are you psychic ? https://t.co/lMAn4U6cht

His original post that sparked a feud on social media saw Cleese defending J.K., saying, “Dear Twits, I have added my name to the signatories of the letter in solidarity with J.K. Rowling. Proud to be in the distinguished company of Ian McEwan, Andrew Davies, Frances Welch, Lionel Shriver, Ben Miller, Tom Stoppard, Frances Barber, Griff Rhys-Jones and Matthew d’Ancona.”
What would you like me to tell, Mr Joughin ? https://t.co/EHAb2oCPBV
