A judge has ruled that Vanessa Bryant, the widow of Kobe Bryant, won’t be required to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Bryant is currently suing Los Angeles County after first responders shared graphic pictures of her deceased husband and 13-year-old daughter. The pair died tragically along with seven others in a helicopter crash last year.

Los Angeles County had asked the court to compel Bryant, and other victims’ family members, to undergo an evaluation in order to assess the level of emotional distress suffered.

Now, according to court documents obtained by NPR, Judge Charles F. Eick ruled against the motion on Monday. He reportedly labelled the request ‘untimely’.

Lawyers for Bryant had previously called the request a “scorched-earth tactic”, intended to “bully” victims families into “abandoning” the case.

The trial will begin in February of 2022.
