Kelly Clarkson Says She ‘Freaked Out’ When She First Met Snoop Dogg

Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg have revealed the touching details behind their first meeting.
The pair, who are due to host the American Song Contest, opened up during a conversation with Entertainment Tonight.
When asked how they first met, Clarkson stated that it was shortly after her American Idol victory in 2002.
“Well, I don’t remember what show it was, but it was a long time ago,” she said. “It was early 2000s, right after I ended up winning Idol, and I was performing a show and we passed each other and he said my name.”
Chipping in, Snoop added, “I didn’t just say your name. I was like, ‘Kelly Clarkson!! What’s happening!? It’s Snoop Dogg.’”
Admitting that she ‘freaked out’, Clarkson said that she remembers the encounter “vividly” because the 50-year-old rap icon was so kind.
“I was like, ‘You know my name?’ I was freaking out.” She continued, “I thought it was so cool. He was just so kind. And honestly, not everyone was super kind in the beginning like after that show, ’cause it was the first season. Nobody knew, in fairness, what was gonna happen. But I remember it vividly because it was a very kind moment. He made me feel good.”
“I mean it’s a good thing because you know you want to treat people with love and respect just in case you come across them again,” said Snoop. “It’s a beautiful thing that God put our spirits together to work together, so we could share that moment and then add some more to it.”
The American Song Contest, based on the Eurovision Song Contest, will feature singers from across the U.S. competing live for the public vote. The show premieres tonight (March 21).
