Kris Wu Arrested Following Rape Allegations

Chinese-Canadian star Kris Wu has been arrested following allegations that he raped a 17-year-old girl.

He was arrested by authorities in Beijing over the weekend.

Earlier in July Wu was publicly accused of rape on the Chinese platform NetEase.

His accuser, Du Meizhu, claimed that Wu had date-raped her when she was 17. She added that seven other women had told her of similar encounters with Wu in which he had raped them through drugs or coercion.

The BBC reports that 24 other women have since come forward.

Brands affiliated with the 30-year-old – including Porsche, L’Oréal and  Lancôme – were quick to cut ties with the star.

Kris Wu has denied all allegations.

According to The Guardian, a statement from the police in Beijing said that Wu was detained “in response to relevant information reported on the internet”.

Wu was a member of renowned Korean boy-band EXO.
