Leonardo DiCaprio is in final talks to star in MGM‘s upcoming feature based on Jim Jones.

Deadline reports that MGM recently secured the rights to the new film, penned by Scott Rosenberg. DiCaprio is also attached to produce through Appian Way, alongside Jennifer Davisson.

Jim Jones was the religious cult leader behind the infamous mass murder-suicide of Jonestown. On November 18, 1978, over 900 people died – almost all of them poisoned with cyanide.

In 1993, DiCaprio received his first Golden Globe and Academy Award nomination at the age of 19, for his starring role in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.
