Martha Stewart says her four dogs mistakenly killed her cat, Princess Peony.

Posting a picture of three men digging a grave for her beloved feline, Stewart said, “Burying the beautiful and unusual Princess Peony. The four dogs mistook her for an interloper and killed her defenceless little self. I will miss her very badly.”

Stewart later posted a picture of the 12-year-old Persian cat for her followers, writing: “This was Princess Peony.”

A self-proclaimed animal lover, Stewart claims on her website that she owns a veritable menagerie of “20 cats, 25 dogs, 10 chinchillas, and scores of canaries and parakeets”, as well as “two ponies, three donkeys, 10 horses, many sheep and goats, and hundreds of chickens, geese, turkeys, guinea fowl, quail, peacocks and homing pigeons.”

Stewart acquired Peony and her sister, Empress Tang, as kittens in 2009. Living together on her farm, the 80-year-old previously alluded to the fact that the cats and dogs did not get along.

“My cats feel liberated because the four dogs are away on vacation,” she posted in August 2021, alongside a picture of Peony and Tang. “Leaving the cats alone in the house to roam, relax, recover!!!”
