Mel Gibson is reportedly the first star cast in the new John Wick prequel series for Starz and Lionsgate.

According to Deadline, the series will act as a three-night special event. Gibson, who has secured a starring role, will play a character named Cormac.

The Continental will explore the origin story behind the titular hotel, heavily featured in the John Wick franchise. It will focus on the perspective of a young Winston Scott in 1975 New York City. He will chart a dangerous course through the city’s underworld in an attempt to seize control of the hotel.

Ian McShane portrays an older Winston Scott in the original films. He is reportedly not due to appear in the series.

Filming on the fourth instalment of the John Wick franchise is currently underway. Production began back in June but suffered delays due to COVID-19 and Keanu Reeves‘ commitments to The Matrix: Resurrections.

Currently, it is scheduled for release on May 27, 2022.

Gibson was recently confirmed as a star in James Cullen Bressack’s new thriller, Hot Seat. You can read more about this here.

The 65-year-old actor is best known for his award-winning filmmaking on The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto. He is best recognised for his roles in Lethal Weapon, Mad Max and Braveheart.
