Neill Blomkamp’s ‘District 10’ Based On “American History”

Neill Blomkamp, the director of sci-fi classic District 9, has shared that the sequel District 10 will be inspired by “American history”.
In an interview with IGN, Blomkamp explained that it had taken time to find a “reason” to make the follow up film. District 9 was released over 10 years ago and a sequel has been discussed as early as 2009 – before the original film had premiered.
Earlier this year Blomkamp revealed that the script for District 10 was being written by Sharlto Copley and Terri Tatchell.
District 10 screenplay also being written by @sharlto @territatchell and I. Its coming…

“That script continues to be written.” Blomkamp told IGN. “It’s looking good. It took a decade to figure out, to come up with a reason why to make that film as opposed to just make a sequel.”
“There was a topic in American history that the second I realized that that fit into the world of District 9, it felt like an awesome way to do a sequel. So yeah, it continues to be developed and it’s getting a lot closer.”
Blomkamp is currently awaiting the August release of his new horror film Demonic, shot during the pandemic.
