The NHL have announced that the league will be paused on Wednesday as COVID-19 cases continue to surge.

In a statement released on Monday, the NHL confirmed that the leagues holiday break will begin early on Wednesday, 22 December.

“Under the revised schedule Dec. 22, Dec. 23, Dec. 24, and Dec. 25 (Christmas Day) shall be off days for all purposes — including travel,” the NHLPA said.

All team facilities will be reopened for players on Dec 26, but only for daily COVID-19 testing and practice. The league’s normal schedule is set to resume on Monday, Dec 27.
