Opinion: The Lowdown On Cardi B’s Eight AMA Looks
For the presentation of the American Music Awards, Cardi B wore a custom Schiaparelli gold mask, alongside seven other couture looks.
We have the complete low down of all eight show-stopping outfits, starting with the the solid gold mask.
The mask was crafted by Schiaparelli creative director, Daniel Roseberry.
The mask was shrouded in black tulle, with matching gold nails and huge golden sundial earrings.
Dazed wrote; “Cardi’s move to conceal her face follows hot on the heels of a succession of looks worn by Kim Kardashian, who has similarly covered up in custom morphsuits by Demna Gvasalia for Balenciaga.”
“In September, the make-up mogul hit the Met Gala’s white carpet in an all-black ensemble that left onlookers questioning whether she’d employed a body double and skipped the event to stay home in her PJs, and was also seen rocking a leather trench and matching gimp mask in the lead up to the event.”
Also that night, Cardi changed into another Schiaparelli look in the form of an AW21 regal blue snatched-waist jacket with gold breast moulds and swirling beaded embroidery, with platform heel-less heels, designed entirely just for her.
Cardi also wore a custom figure hugging Jean Paul Gaultier chartreuse gown made up of a bodysuit with breast details and long flowing train.
Also that night, Cardi stunned us all a Las Vegas showgirl for the night in a black velvet Alexandre Vauthier gown with thigh high slit, and a headpiece that could rival even Cher’s Bob Mackie-era.
The next look wad made up of a Mélique Street blazer, complete with embellished structured shoulders and stoned boots. She wore this sat atop a pile of Louis Vuitton luggage.
Cardi’s second velvet look, this one a Jean-Louis Sabaji FW21 Couture body-hugging purple dress, embellished with Swarovski crystals on the front and purple plumes coming off the shoulders.
For the second time that evening, Cardi wore an extravagant headpiece with a two tone correct and sheer laddered lace trim gloves and over the top black jewels.
And finally, when accepting her own award for Favourite Rap Song for Up, Cardi wore a hooded dress from London based designer Miss Sohee FW21 Couture collection.
The rapper wore the structured headpiece and crystal-embellished dress with a high-slight skirt to close out the show.
Any award show Cardi attends, all eyes are on her, and the AMA’s proved that she intends for it to stay that way for a while yet.
