Opinion: Top Picks From New Music Friday Featuring Holly Humberstone
Friday is among us once again and by now you know what that means – unCrazed’s new music picks for the week.
This week marks the return of Alicia Keys with album KEYS.
The record is stacked with tracks – but also some notable features.
Keys has teamed up with Pusha T, Brandi Carlile, Khalid, and others on multiple tracks.
LALA, featuring Swae Lee, has been the best performing single prior to the albums release, amassing over five million streams on Spotify so far.
Elsewhere, recently released movie The Hating Game has dropped it’s soundtrack featuring a number of rising artists, including Lyn Lapid and BENEE, and a few appearances from Norwegian pop-star Dagny.
The pick of the bunch, however, comes from Joy Oladokun with beautifully understated ballad Count On Me.
On the topic of artists on the rise, Abby Cates released saw ur mom at the grocery store, while music royalty – Mitski and Bon Iver – shared new singles Heat Lightning and Second Nature respectively.
Sam Fender teamed up with Holly Humberstone for a stripped back, acoustic version of hit-single Seventeen Going Under.
And in keeping with December’s Christmas theme, Tom Walker shared heartfelt track For Those Who Can’t Be Here.

Each week, Artist on the Rise is chosen based purely on who we think could be the next to make it big.
This week is no different, but it does come with the backing of the BRITs.
On Thursday (December 9), it was announced that Holly Humberstone had won the BRITs Rising Star 2022 award.
Previous winners include Griff, Sam Fender, Adele, Florence and the Machine, and many more – quite the company for the 21-year-old to keep.
Humberstone has gone from strength to strength in her rise to stardom, and has recently released her second EP The Walls Are Way Too Thin – a follow on from 2020 EP Falling Asleep At The Wheel.
Not only does she come equipped with a no-skip discography, but her creative outlet for music videos is just as good.
Each one of them looks as though it was a one camera shot take and makes for an equally impressive watch as it does listen.
Despite having her own unique sound, Humberstone pulls inspiration from big names such as Bon Iver, Phoebe Bridgers, Lorde, and Frank Ocean and it reflects in her own work.
With over 200 million monthly listeners on Spotify already, this rising artist should be on everyone’s watch list for 2022; it has the potential to be life-changing.
