Oscar Winner, Regina King, Almost Passed On ‘Beale Street’

Regina King won an Oscar at the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk.
The actress has since revealed that she almost passed on the opportunity — this was her first feature film role in 10 years.
She explained, “Honestly, I had finished [Netflix TV drama] Seven Pounds when this came my way, but Seven Pounds hadn’t come out yet, but that was a heavy role as a mother, and I was like, ‘I don’t want to play a mother at all.’ I told my agent, and then this comes my way.”
Regina said that this is a film she wanted to do “after not having done a film for a while”.
Congratulations!
