New Orleans Pelicans center Jaxson Hayes has been charged with twelve misdemeanours almost six months after an altercation with police.

TMZ Sports reports that the city attorney in Los Angeles (Mike Feuer) ultimately decided to press charges after district attorney George Gascon declined to do so.

The charges relate to an incident back in July of 2021, in which police responded to a call that Hayes’ girlfriend was fearing for her safety. They were denied entry upon arrival at Hayes’ LA residence, resulting in a scuffle.

After allegedly pushing an officer into a wall, Hayes was tasered and arrested.

Among the charges now being pressed is at least one count of inflicting a corporal injury, destroying property, use of force, resisting a police officer, and using force against an LAPD member.

Hayes could reportedly face up to one year in jail if convicted on the list of offences.
