Russian Skater Kamila Valieva On Cusp Of Controversial Gold Medal

Kamila Valieva competed on the ice for the first time since the doping scandal swept the headlines on Tuesday. You can read more about this here.
The 15-year-old was in tears after the two minute forty second routine.
A stumble at the end saw her score 82.16, sending Valieva to the top of the standings going into the final skate.
She walked past reporters and thanked people for their support, but was not present at the press conference.
Valieva will now skate for gold on Thursday, and could be joined by fellow ROC athletes Anna Shcherbakova and Alexandra Trusova, who sit in second and fourth respectively. Japanese skater Kaori Sakamoto is currently in third.
Even if Valieva does place on the podium, however, she may never receive her medal after the International Olympic Committee decided against a medal ceremony so that they can be allocated to the ‘right person’, as reported by the BBC.
The final skate will go ahead on February 17.
