Ryan Reynolds Reveals He Is A Huge Mariah Carey Fan

Ryan Reynolds has described himself as a huge Mariah Carey fan in an interview discussing the use of one her songs in ‘Free Guy’.
‘Free Guy’ is an upcoming action-comedy film in which Reynolds plays the role of a bank teller named Guy that discovers he’s actually an NPC in a brutal, open world video game.
The film releases next week on Friday, August 13 and features the use of Carey’s 1995 hit ‘Fantasy’.
Speaking to Variety, Reynolds revealed how the song came to be used in the film and why it was important to his creative process.
“I am a huge Mariah Carey fan. It really was one of those weird things that happened naturally. I write to music anyway, and I initially put a song in the script by The Outfield called ‘Your Love’, he said”
“It’s an old ’80s tune. It’s great, but it just didn’t have that epic scale I was looking for,” he added.
Reynolds then revealed next up on his writing playlist was Carey’s ‘Fantasy’ and he immediately knew it was the right song for the film.
Once he realised it was the right track to use he then made the effort to get in touch with Carey.
“I got to speak with Mariah and talked to her a little bit about how much of an engine that this song had been in terms of our creative process.”
Reynolds recently attended the red carpet premiere for ‘Free Guy’, which was held on Tuesday evening at the AMC Lincoln Square Theatre.
