Scott Eastwood discusses a “volatile moment” between him and Shia LaBeouf on the set of Fury.

The World War II picture directed by David Ayer made its debut in 2016. The film followed a U.S. tank crew battling their way through Germany in the final weeks of the European war.

Eastwood – the son of major western movie star Clint Eastwood – starred in the feature as Sergeant Miles. He was joined by A-list co-stars LaBeouf, Brad Pitt, Michael Pena, Jason Isaacs, Jon Bernthal and Logan Lerman.

Now, in an interview with Insider, Eastwood has revealed that tensions ran high between him and LaBeouf at one point during production. In a scene in which Eastwood was required to spit on the group’s tank, LaBeouf supposedly took personal offence.

“[LaBeouf] got mad at me and it turned into a volatile moment that Brad Pitt ultimately got in the middle of,” said Eastwood. “I never think your process as an actor should ever hinder how people are treated on set.”

“It should always enhance the production, not take away and put people in a situation where it’s a s****y work environment or you’re rude or people have to be in an uncomfortable situation.”

Addressing the incident with British GQ in 2014, Pitt said that the cast had grown to consider the tank “home” and that both he and LaBeouf had become “p***** off” when Eastwood began spitting. He said that he was forced to intervene when the argument between the pair escalated.

Shia had the same reaction I did, and started having some words,” said Pitt. “The funny thing is, when we got home at the end of the day and read the script, it said Scotty’s character is ‘chewing tobacco and spitting on the back of the tank.’ He was just doing as instructed in the script! So we were the knobs in the end.”
