SZA has revealed the reason why she needed crutches and a wheelchair to make it onstage at this year’s Grammy’s.

The 31-year-old singer had to use crutches on Sunday as she made her way on stage to collect her award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her collaboration with Doja Cat on Kiss Me More.

During an interview backstage following their win, SZA revealed she had fallen out of bed while sleeping, causing her to brake her ankle.

“‘It’s very funny because I fell out of bed right before it was time to like leave and get ready for this, like the day before,” she said.

“I fell very, very wrong, and it hurts, and I will be better soon. But I’m clumsy, so it’s okay. It’s like a normal happenstance for me,” she added.

In an Instagram story posted the day after the Grammys, SZA shared a video of her leg being bandaged up.

“Lmao welp it’s confirmed broken,” she wrote. “I thought it was just sprained… I was NOT missing that carpet.” In another photo, she shared an X-ray, writing: “Chipped the corner of my ankle bone right off doing NOTHING.”
