Taraji P. Henson To Play Villain Miss Hannigan in NBC’s ‘Annie Live!’

NBC has announced that ‘Empire‘ and ‘Hidden Figures‘ star Taraji P. Henson will play Miss Hannigan in their production of ‘Annie Live!’

Henson will play the evil orphanage owner Miss Hannigan. In what is the first casting announcement for the live production.

“Carol Burnett, who brought Miss Hannigan to life in the classic 1982 movie, is someone I have studied and idolized as far back as I can remember,” said Henson.

“So when the opportunity came to me to join NBC and this incredible group of producers, I jumped! Carol, I hope to do you proud.” she added.

‘Annie Live’ will air late 2021 and will be NBC’s first live musical since 2018.

“When we decided to bring back NBC’s holiday musical tradition, we were looking for something that was critically acclaimed and universally beloved — and while that’s definitely the case with ‘Annie,’ it absolutely applies to Taraji as well,” said NBC’s Susan Rover.

NBC also revealed that they will be conducting a nationwide virtual search to find a talented young actor to play the role of Annie.
