Keith Richards has put a stop to his smoking habit that he says is harder to quit than heroin.

The Rolling Stones guitarist put his final cigarette out in September to become part of Stoptober, a campaign that supports those struggling to stop smoking.

Richards told Q104.3 New York‘s Jim Kerr that he quit the bad habit in October and hasn’t picked up a cigarette since. The 76-year-old said, “Done that, been there,”

In March 2018, he said in an interview that he’d “pulled the plug” on drinking alcohol, but does have the occasional glass of wine or a beer. He furthered to say today’s drugs are “not interesting” and “very institutionalised and bland”

The band is hitting the road again to continue their tour, with Keith saying, “I think both Mick [Jagger] and I felt that on the last tour we were just getting going … [We]’ve got to continue this.”
