The Wanted‘s band member, Tom Parker, has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.

The 32-year-old singer explains that he is “still in shock” after doctors told him six weeks ago that he has stage 4 glioblastoma.

Talking to OK! magazine he explains that he and his family are remaining positive, and don’t want sadness from supporters, but instead want their love and kindness. He said during an Instagram post, “You know that we’ve both been quiet on social media for a few weeks and it’s time to tell you why.

There’s no easy way to say this but I’ve sadly been diagnosed with a Brain Tumour and I’m already undergoing treatment. We decided, after a lot of thought, that rather than hiding away and trying to keep it a secret, we would do one interview where we could lay out all the details and let everyone know the facts in our own way.

We are all absolutely devastated but we are gonna fight this all the way. We don’t want your sadness, we just want love and positivity and together we will raise awareness of this terrible disease and look for all available treatment options. It’s gonna be a tough battle but with everyone’s love and support we are going to bear this.”

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Parker was told the devastating news on his own after undergoing three days of tests which pointed to him having cancer. The concern over his health began earlier this year after he suffered a seizure in July and was put on a waiting list for an MRI scan, followed by another, more serious seizure just six weeks later in Norwich during a family trip.

Tom married actress Kelsey Hardwick in 2018, and shared a 16-month-old daughter, Aurelia, with the couple expecting their second child.
