The Premier League has announced the postponement of two more fixtures ahead of a busy Christmas playing schedule.

The requested to have games rescheduled came in from Leeds United and Watford amid a continuing Covid-19 outbreak across clubs.

“The Board today was able to make its decisions in advance of Boxing Day to give clarity to clubs and their supporters,” they wrote in a statement. “We apologise for the inconvenience and disruption caused to those fans’ festive plans.

“The League is aware that the decision to postpone these two matches will disappoint supporters and understands their frustrations at a special time of year when fans look forward to attending and watching football games.

“The League aims to provide as much clarity as possible, but unfortunately postponements sometimes have to be made at short notice, as safety is the priority. The League will endeavour to keep supporters updated if games become at risk on a matchday.”

Watford are believed to have insufficient numbers to field a team against Wolverhampton Wanderers, but will be expected to play their next game.

Meanwhile, Leeds will have to wait for a trip down to Merseyside as their game against Liverpool will be played at a later date.

The Premier League and its clubs have tightened Covid protocols, and aim to persist with the playing schedule.
