World Number One Ashleigh Barty Announces Retirement

World number one Ashleigh Barty leaves the tennis world shocked as she announces her retirement at just twenty-five.
Barty is at the height of her game after winning three major titles in the last three years, prompting no one to expect her surprise decision to stop playing.
She posted a video on Instagram sharing the surprising news. Barty revealed that she physically had “nothing more to give”.
“Today is difficult and filled with emotion for me as I announce my retirement from tennis,” she wrote in the caption.
“I’m so happy and I’m so ready…I just know at the moment in my heart, for me as a person, this is right.
“I know that people may not understand it. I’m OK with that, because I know that Ash Barty the person has so many dreams she wants to chase after that don’t necessarily involve travelling the world, being away from my family, from my home, which is where I’ve always wanted to be.”
She has been ranked the world’s best since she won the French Open back in 2019.
And just this year Barty enjoyed success at the Australian Open, becoming the first home player to win the men or women’s title for the first time in 44 years.
Barty adds: “I am so thankful for everything this sport has given me and leave feeling proud and fulfilled.
“Physically I have nothing more to give. I’ve given absolutely everything I have to this beautiful sport of tennis, and I’m really happy with. For me, that is my success.”
She goes on to thank everyone for the support along the way, saying she will be grate for the “lifelong memories we created together.”
