YouTube Bans R. Kelly

YouTube has removed several of R. Kelly’s channels following his sex trafficking conviction.
R. Kelly was found guilty on multiple sexual abuse charges against women and minors. It took jurors just two days of deliberation to reach their verdict. He will be sentenced on May 4, 2022.
According to Bloomberg, YouTube has suspended two of the disgraced singer’s channels, though his music will remain available through YouTube Music.
The channels – RKellyTV and RKellyVevo – were taken down on Tuesday. YouTube cited a violation to its terms of service as the reason for the action. R. Kelly will now be unable to use, own or create new channels on the platform.
A memo obtained by Bloomberg from Nicole Alston (the Vice President of legal at YouTube) stated: “Egregious actions committed by R. Kelly warrant penalties beyond standard enforcement measures due to a potential to cause widespread harm.” She added, “Ultimately we are taking this action to protect our users similar to other platforms.”
