YouTube Star, Grant Thompson, Dead At 38
The creator of one of YouTube’s biggest viral channels, King of Random, Grant Thompson, has died at 38.
According to his brother, Mark, he went paragliding on Monday evening, and never returned home — his body was discovered by local authorities on Tuesday.
A report was made to The Washington County Sheriff’s Office on Monday after a paraglider disappeared off the radar near the Sand Hollow State Park. Once the call was received, a huge search began as calls were made to Grant’s phone, but couldn’t be reached.
Earlier hours on Tuesday morning, GPS data located his coordinates, and a helicopter discovered his body. Amongst the wreckage was paragliding equipment and a video recording device, which was reviewed by authorities to enable them to determine the cause.
A video has since been uploaded on Grant’s YouTube channel, with a caption that reads, “It is with great sadness to inform everyone that Grant Thompson passed away last night. Grant had great love and appreciation for his fans.
We invite you to share your thoughts for Grant and the channel in the comments. Please do a random act of love or kindness today in honor of The King of Random. Grant’s legacy will live on in the channel and the global community he created.”
YouTube has commented on the passing, saying, “We’re deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of Grant Thompson, a gifted, passionate and endlessly curious creator. We send our deepest condolences to his loving family, The King of Random team and fans.”
Rest in Peace.
