Zendaya Crowned Fashion Icon at the CFDA Fashion Awards
Zendaya has repeatedly shown up and shown out on every red carpet this past year, so it’s no surprise she has been named The Council of Fashion Designers of America’s fashion icon of 2021.
The actress originally rose to fame in Disney Channel’s Shake It Up.
Since then, her fame and fashion accolades have grown exponentially.
They include launching gender-fluid clothing collection Daya by Zendaya in collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger, as well as becoming a spokesperson for Lancôme, Bulgari and Valentino.
There is a whole lexicon of fashion moments which could have contributed towards her getting the award.
Most notably, her 2019 Met Gala look, which was a Cinderella inspired light-up Tommy Hilfiger gown, came to life before our eyes.
At the BET awards this year she chose to pay homage to Beyonce in a vintage Versace SS03 dress.
While her original version was a mini dress with a pleated, ultra-high hem, Zendaya’s had a flowy, maxi-length skirt with a daringly high leg slit.
This isn’t the first time Zendaya has been given a fashion ward.
Last year, she won the 2020 Visionary Award at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards, which celebrates equality, inclusivity and sustainability in fashion.
“It’s an incredible honour and means the world to me… Throughout my career I have had the privilege of being able to showcase other different types of beauties,” she said at the time to Harpers Bazaar.
“Through the work that I get to do, creating more positions of power, more creative positions and I hope to continue to be able to do that, until this industry really does reflect the beauty that I see every day.”
Her stylist Law Roach also deserves a mention.
The pair have worked together for ten years now, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
They met when Zendaya was 14 and still working at Disney.
The award show will take place on the 10th November.
