Amazon’s new ‘The Lord of The Rings‘ television series will premiere on the platform on September 22, 2022.

According to Deadline, filming for the show recently concluded.

The series is set a thousand years before the events of the original films, based on the books by J.R.R. Tolkien. The story follows a group of characters, old and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to middle-earth.

Though further details on the series are sparse, the cast is extensive. Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi and Marfydd Clark are just some of the names attached to the project.

J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay created the show which Christopher Newman will produce.

“The journey begins September 2, 2022, with the premiere of our original The Lord of The Rings series on Amazon Prime,” announced Amazon Studios boss, Jennifer Salke.

“I can’t express enough just how excited we all are to take our global audience on a new and epic journey through Middle-earth. Our talented producers, cast, creative and production teams have worked tirelessly in New Zealand to bring this untold and awe-inspiring vision to life.”

The show has been in production since February 2020.
