Scarlett Johansson Suing Disney Over Loss Of Income From ‘Black Widow’

Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney for loss of income following their decision to release Black Widow in cinemas and on Disney+ simultaneously.
Johansson alleges that the decision breaches her contract and deprives her of an estimated $50 million in earnings.
According to Variety, Disney responded that Johansson’s suit had “no merit”.
It added that the 36-year-old actress had already received $20 million for her contribution and that her income was “enhanced” by Black Widow’s release on Disney+.
Scathingly, the studio accused Johansson of showing “callous disregard” for the “horrific and prolonged global effects of the Covid-19 pandemic”.
The Guardian reports that Johansson’s salary was directly tied to Black Widow’s box office success.
Despite a strong opening week the film has become one of Marvel’s lowest earning to date. It has so far grossed $319 million globally.
