Anthony Mackie has secured the role of John Doe in Sony Pictures’ live-action adaptation of Twisted Metal.

The series, created by Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, is based on Playstation’s Twisted Metal game franchise. Michael Jonathan Smith will adapt the script

The story follows a motor-mouthed outsider (Mackie) offered a chance at a better life if he can deliver a package. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll cross a desert wasteland, face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and fight other dangers of the open road – including a clown driving an ice cream truck.

Mackie’s character is described as a ‘smart-ass milkman’ suffering from amnesia.

“We’re thrilled to have Anthony Mackie on board,” said head of Playstation Productions, Asad Qizilbash. “His ability to blend comedy, action and drama is perfect for the Twisted world we’re creating.”

News of Mackie’s casting was first shared by Deadline.

Mackie is looking forward to a busy year with his recently confirmed return to the Marvel franchise as Captain America.

The 42-year-old has enjoyed recent success for his role in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Solider. He also recently appeared in Joe Wright’s psychological thriller, The Woman in the Window and sci-fi action film, Outside the Wire.
