Artist Claims AOCs Met Gala Dress Was Inspired By Her Own Design

An artist has claimed that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Met Gala dress was inspired by one of her own works.
The dress, which featured the phrase “tax the rich” in bright red text, caused quite a stir on social media after many accused Cortez of peddling political activism.
According to a street artist named Velvet Bandit, the dress is very similar to one of her own designs which features the phrase drawn into a facemask with a similar font and colour.
“Look familiar? @aoc stepped out at the Met Gala wearing a dress designed by @aurorajames that looks hella similar to my design,” the artist wrote on Instagram.
Despite the design being extremely similar to one of her own, Velvet Bandit does not seem upset noting that she is a fan of both Cortez and the dress’ designer Aurora James.
“I admire both of these women greatly. And I would love nothing more that to collaborate with them in some way,” she said.
