Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing Reveals Burns From Blast
Creative director Olivier Rousteing has revealed his burns from a fireplace explosion in an Instagram post.
Olivier uploaded an image from last year of himself covered in bandages.
His injuries were the result of a fireplace accident at his home.
Rousteing writes that he is finally ready to share this after hiding it for so long.
Upon reflecting why he hid his injuries, he sheds light on the levels of perfectionism that are so prevalent in the fashion world. “I am not really sure why I was so ashamed , maybe this obsession with perfection that fashion is known for and my own insecurities…”
During his recovery, he continued to work hard on his collections at the same time as “hiding the scars with face masks, turtlenecks, long sleeves and even multiple rings.”
He also offered praise to the “talented” medical staff at Paris’s Hôpital Saint Louis, where he woke up following the accident, who “took amazing care” of him “despite dealing with an incredible number of COVID cases.”
Balmain‘s latest show was a reflection of Olivier‘s pain, bravery, and healing.

Today, he notes that he is “so free, so good and so lucky.”
“I’m beginning a new chapter with a smile on my face and a heart full of gratitude.”
