Chinese brands have rushed to cut ties with Kris Wu after accusations that he coerced young women and girls to have sex with him.

An alleged victim of Wu spoke on the Chinese platform NetEase. The young woman – Du Meizhu – claimed that Wu had date-raped her when she was 17.

She also said she knew of other girls whom he had drugged or falsely promised fame in order to have sex with them.

The age of consent in China is 14.

Meizhu stated that Wu invited her and other girls back to his home, where he encouraged them all to drink alcohol. She said the next day she woke to find herself in the older man’s bed.

Meizhu added that Wu had paid her 500,000 yuan ($77,130) to keep quiet.

According to the Global Times, brands including Kans, Porsche, Vatti, Lancôme and Tempo have all started severing ties with Wu. While some brands have deleted social media posts featuring him, others have terminated his contracts.

In a post to Chinese social media site Weibo, the Chinese-Canadian singer and actor denied the allegations.

“I didn’t respond earlier because I didn’t want to interfere with judicial proceedings… but I cannot bear it anymore, said Wu in a post shared by The Independent.

“I declare that I met Miss Du only once at a gathering organised by a friend on 5 December 2020. There was no such thing as forced drinking, confiscation of phones, or any other details alleged in her stories.”

He added that, “I would have sent myself to jail if I had committed any of these crimes.”

Kris Wu is a former member of the highly successful Korean band, EXO.
