Carl Nassib Takes Personal Day Following Jon Gruden Departure
Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib requests a personal day following the resignation of team coach Jon Gruden.
Gruden resigned on Tuesday (October 12), following the exposure of numerous emails which used racist, homophobic and misogynistic language.
Now, according to Raiders general manager Mike Mayock, Nassib is taking some time off to process the news. In June 2021, he became the first active NFL player to come out as gay.
RAIDERS GM Mike Mayock: DL Carl Nassib, who is gay, requested a personal day. Said he has met with Nassib 3 times. Said Nassib is processing a lot of things and the team supports him. Mayock didn’t mention ex-coach Gruden’s homophobic emails, but that seemed to be behind this.

Rich Bisaccia will take over as Interim Head Coach until a permanent replacement for Gruden is announced.
