Cher Looks Back On Her Romance With Actor Val Kilmer
Cher has been reflecting on her romance with Val Kilmer and shares that she fell ‘madly in love with him’.
In a new personal essay, the singer looks back on when she met Kilmer at a party in the 80’s.
The two became friends but soon developed a romantic relationship despite the 14-year age difference. Val was 22 and Cher was in her 30’s at the time.
“It was a bigger deal back then,” she writes, “the truth was if I hadn’t gone out with younger men, I would have never had a date. Younger men weren’t intimidated by older women.”
She reflects on how well she connected with Val and the nicknames they had for one another.
“We called ourselves Sid and Ethel,” she explains, “we also called ourselves Valus Maximus and Cherus Reprimandus.”
When Val was diagnosed with throat cancer, he spent a lot of time at Cher’s house.
“He was at my house a lot of the time he was sick. He was brave the whole time. I saw how sick he was.”

Their romantic relationship ended but they remain close friends. She reveals that she wrote to him after seeing his documentary, Val.
“I loved him—and I love him.”
