China’s Eileen Gu Wins Halfpipe Gold To Make Olympic History

Eileen Gu is just 18-years-old, but she has already etched her name into Olympic history.
Representing host country China, Gu became the first freestyle skier to win three medals at a single Games.
Gold in the halfpipe completed the set, after winning silver in Slopestyle and gold in the big air competition.
Gu followed a strong first run with an unbeatable second, scoring a mammoth 95.25.
By the time she set off for a third run, she was already guaranteed the historic gold.
“I’ve never taken a victory lap before in my entire life,” she told reporters. “So I felt like ‘You know what, last event at the Olympics it feels like I finally deserve it’, I’m really happy.”
Gu added: “It has been two straight weeks of the most intense highs and low I’ve ever experienced in my life. It has changed my life forever.”
A breakout performance at Gu’s first Winter Olympic Games, and plenty more to come for the rising star.
