Frances McDormand: Oscar Thief Charges Dropped

Frances McDormand’s Oscar for Best Actress at the 2017 Academy Awards was swiped from her belongings.
The man accused of taking the award has been rewarded with no prosecution by law enforcement, according to TMZ.com.
Terry Bryant, 47, was spotted by the Associated Press that were capturing the stars on camera as they left the 2017 awards ceremony, carrying the stolen award that was given to Frances that same evening.
According to law enforcement, Frances herself wasn’t willing to cooperate with the investigation, and a judge dismissed the entire case. TMZ.com claim the reason why she wouldn’t cooperate wasn’t a sudden change of heart, apparently, Frances felt embarrassed by the fact he managed to swipe the Oscar award.
Due to the Academy of Motion Pictures owning the statuette, they filed the police report and was named as the victim; due to Frances being the witness, the prosecutors needed her testimony.
The D.A. told TMZ.com, “The District Attorney’s Office today told the court that we are unable to proceed at this time. The defence moved to dismiss the case, and Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Sam Ohta dismissed it.”
It’s believed the statuette went missing during press interviews backstage, and once footage emerged of Terry parading around with the Oscar in-hand, he was arrested by law enforcement.
