Jay-Z Awarded $4.5 Million In Lawsuit with Perfume Company Parlux

Rapper Jay-Z has been awarded $4.5 million in a lawsuit with perfume company Parlux over unpaid royalties.
The 52-year-old, was initially sued for $68 million in 2016 by Parlux, who alleged that he didn’t fulfil his contractual obligations set forth in 2012 to promote the fragrance, Gold Jay Z.
The case went to trial in New York last autumn for three weeks and Jay-Z filed a counterclaim saying he was owed unpaid royalties by Parlux.
In the trial, a jury ruled that Jay-Z was not responsible for the $68 million, but also rejected his counter royalties claims of $4.5 million.
Now, according to TMZ, an appellate court has overturned the jury’s decision and ruled that Jay-Z is entitled to the royalties in his counterclaim.
“The record is clear: Parlux sold licensed products after July 31, 2015, but failed to pay royalties on those sales,” Justice John Higgitt of the Appellate Division, First Department said.
